Royal Ascot Ladies Day dress code

What to wear to Royal Ascot this year?

Were you thinking of wearing that feathery hat? OK if you’re going in the Silver ring but should you be heading for Royal enclosure think again!

Just had your belly button pierced and want to show off that bling? Think again... unless you’re from Fiji. Their traditional dress being the grass skirt!

Wahey... that would make for great TV! The national dress today is the sulu, not quite as groovy as the grass skirt but you don’t malt everywhere, so far more polite in company don’t ya know!!

Those attending Ladies Day at Royal Ascot this week would have made themselves aware of the dress code by checking the main Royal Ascot website and will also have been notified by post with their tickets. This post is for those of us not lucky enough to be going along to ladies day but just interested in what you should ware to Royal Ascot 2011.

Silver Ring Dress Code

Whilst we encourage racegoers to wear smart clothing, no formal dress code applies.

Grandstand Admission Dress Code

Ladies with a Grandstand Admission ticket are required to dress in a manner appropriate to a smart occasion.

Many wear hats although this is not compulsory. Gentlemen in the Grandstand Admission area must wear a shirt and tie, preferably with a suit or jacket. Sports attire, jeans and shorts are strictly forbidden.

Please note the Royal Enclosure Dress Code is not essential in this admission area. Fascinators and spaghetti straps are acceptable and it is not essential that dresses are below the knee. Many people chose to follow the Royal Enclosure dress code in this area however it is not obligatory, we do ask that you dress appropriately for the occasion.

Her Majesty’s Representative wishes to point out that only formal day dress with a hat or substantial fascinator will be acceptable.

Off the shoulder, halter neck, spaghetti straps and dresses with a strap of less than one inch and miniskirts are considered unsuitable. Midriffs must be covered and trouser suits must be full length and of matching material and colour.

Gentlemen are required to wear either black or grey morning dress, including a waistcoat, with a top hat. A gentleman may remove his top hat within a restaurant, a private box, a private club or that facility’s terrace, balcony or garden. Hats may also be removed within any enclosed external seating area within the Royal Enclosure Garden.

Overseas visitors are welcome to wear the formal national dress of their country or Service dress.

Ladies and Gentlemen not complying with the above dress regulations will be asked to leave the Royal Enclosure and relieved of their Royal Enclosure badge.
